Scoring
Join the fun! Tournaments are run using the standard rules of No Limit Texas
Hold 'Em and tournament play (read our rules here).
Points are accumulated at each night's tournament over a 3 month calendar
quarter in order to qualify for the Quarterly Championship.
The Quarterly Championship
There are 4 ways to qualify for the Quarterly Championship, where we reward
our players for their excellent play over the course of 3 months:
1. The Top Players
The league is divided into 3 regions. The top 30% of all players in the Route
31/West and Route 1/Central regions (maximum 60 players from each region)
are eligible for the Quarterly Championship. Since our Monmouth/East region
games are somewhat remote from the other games, the top 35% there (maximum
70 players) are eligible for our Quarterly Championship. To qualify under
this rule, you must also be an "active player": play a minimum of
8 games (West or Central) or a minimum of 6 games (East) in the quarter, or
accumulate a minimum of 60 points (West or Central) or 30 points (East) in
the quarter. Also, the top 2 players overall in the quarterly standings receive
chip ups of 100 and 50 in the Quarterly Championship and will receive prizes
at the end of the quarter.
2. Venue Champions
At the end of each quarter, most of our venues hold a single table game to
determine the Venue Champion. The top 8 players at the venue during the quarter
qualify for this game. (If players in the top 8 announce ahead of time that
they will not be present for the Venue Championship, the next highest ranked
player(s) may qualify as alternates and play in the game. Alternates will
not receive more than the minimum 150 chips.) The winner gets a special prize
from the venue and automatically qualifies for the Quarterly Championship
with an additional 50 chip up* in that game. Starting chip stacks for the
Venue Championship Game will be awarded as follows (Firkin Tavern and Lawrence
Grill have slightly different structures):
Every player starts with a minimum of 150 in chips.
+25 chips to the player who finishes in 1st at the venue for the quarter.
+15 chips to the player who finishes in 2nd at the venue for the quarter.
+10 chips to the player who finishes in 3rd at the venue for the quarter.
+25 chips to each weekly game winner at the venue. (The 25 chips is for each
win, so the more wins you have, the more chips you get!)
In case of a tie for 1st and 2nd (or 2nd and 3rd), the total chip up will
be split evenly among the players tied. In case of a tie for 3rd, each player
tied will receive the chip up.
Blind levels will be at 15 minutes or at the discretion of the Tournament
Director.
* Starting April 2011, players can receive multiple chip ups for the Quarterly
Championship game from all Venue Championship Games and qualifying events.
3. Single Venue Qualifiers
Also eligible for the Quarterly Championship is the top player at each
venue who didn't make the top 30%. To be eligible under this rule, you must
play a minimum of 5 games at that venue/night in the quarter.
4. Tournament Directors
Last but not least, our tournament directors qualify for the Quarterly
Championship (subject to certain restrictions). So join
Nite Owl Poker and get started.
If you are unable to attend the Quarterly Championship, you're still eligible
for the next one as long as you remain an "active player" in the
subsequent quarter as defined above.
Here's the breakdown of how points are awarded at each night's tournament.
The scoring system takes into account that winning bigger tournaments
should be worth more points than winning smaller tournaments:
1. Tournament Points
1. Points have increased somewhat to further reward top finishers. First Place
now gets 4 points more than 2nd Place, 2nd gets 3 points more than 3rd, and
3rd gets 2 points more than 4th.
2. There is now a points differential to separate 6th from 7th, 7th from 8th,
etc. no matter how small the game.
3. Point increases in games with 30 players or more now break at every 4 additional
players rather than every 3 additional players.

2. Sit N Go Points
Players who have been eliminated from the main tournament may also play in
a Sit N Go. Points are not risked to participate in the Sit N Go. Each Sit
N Go consists of 5 - 8 players. At the tournament director's discretion, there
may be multiple Sit n Go events. New in the 4th Quarter, playes may now earn
points in both the main event and in one Sit N Go a night. Points are awarded
as follows:
